Introduction
This tour takes us down Taiwan’s magnificent Northeastern coast with a few interesting stops along the way before bringing us into Taroko Gorge National Park. An early evening hike close to the park’s entrance leads to a riverside BBQ or hot pot, including fresh river shrimp, which you’ll catch yourself! We’ll take the next day to explore the gorge more fully by road and foot, visiting some of the shrines, temples, caves, and waterfalls that make this most dramatic landscape even more magical. We’ll take our time hiking along breathtaking trails and dipping our feet in the river before heading back up the coast and returning to Taipei. Taroko Gorge has drawn travelers from near and far for decades. After our visit, you’ll know why.
Please note:
- Shrimp catching and BBQ may be changed to shrimp fishing and Taiwanese cuisine dinner or hot pot if the weather or river condition is not allowed.
- To be on the safe side, booking at least 8 days to departure is highly recommended.
- Exact pick-up time and tour guide’s contact number will be advised two days before tour departure.
- Please advise any specific dietary requirement at the time of booking.
- Children 2 and younger are complimentary with a paying adult. (no need for extra bed)
- There will be a 100% charge for no-shows that is defined as arriving 1 hour late for private multi-day tours.

Day 1 Taipei – Taroko Gorge
Start this tour at noon with a leisure drive down Taiwan’s magnificent east coast, stopping at a few beautiful spots along the way. We’ll dip our toes in the ocean beneath the Qingshui cliff before heading into Taroko Gorge to do some shrimping along the river. After dinner under the stars, stay overnight at Taroko.
- Pick up from your accommodation in Taipei at noon
- Drive down the eastern coast, stopping for fascinating coastal views along the way
- Pass by Qingshui Cliff on the famous Suhua Highway coastal road
- Evening hike on stream followed by shrimp fishing and riverside BBQ feast or hot pot

Day 2 Taroko Gorge – Taipei
Today we’ll explore Taroko Gorge more deeply. Hiking along trails leading to waterfalls and shrines and driving through marble canyons filled with cliffs and temples. We’ll leave the park in the afternoon and drive along the coastal highway as the sun sets over the coastal mountains.
