Introduction

Taiwan’s east is known for its breathtaking scenery. Our Eastern Beauty Tour brings you to well-known scenic spots and hidden gems alike. Along the way, we’ll experience awe-inspiring nature (including Taroko Gorge and the Rift Valley), visit the villages of indigenous tribes that the locals called this land home for thousands of years, eat amazing meals, and have numerous opportunities for leisure and outdoor activities including hiking, boating and bicycling through the fascinating terrain for which the area is justly known. In between the bucolic splendor, we’ll also make time to explore Hualien and Taitung, two of the east coast’s largest cities. Though equally laid back, both cities boast their own unique cultural caches.

  • To be on the safe side, booking at least 10 days to departure is highly recommended.
  • Tour requires a minimum of 2 guests.
  • Exact pick-up time and tour guide’s contact number will be advised two days before tour departure.

Day 1 Taipei – Su’ao – Hualien

When heading down the magnificent east coast, we will stop at Yilan Su’ao and enjoy the rare type of cold springs, which are only found in a few places around the world, before arriving at Hualien. After lunch, visit a beautiful pebble-strewn beach with famously clear blue waters, take a walk around 48 Highland, and cycle along the best coastal bike path.

Day 2 Hualien – Taitung

On day two, we’ll head south down the coast, making many stops along the way to check out the region’s astonishingly varied coastal terrain. Further down the coast, we’ll stop to visit local monkeys. In the afternoon, you may enjoy a walk by Seashore Park when you reach Taitung city. If you’re adventurous, a flying experience by hot air balloon or paragliding in Luye could be arranged.

  • Scenic tour of coastal cliffs, beaches, and coral and visit various seaside landscapes, including Shitiping, Baxian Cave (Cave of the Eight Immortals), and Sanxiantai (Three Immortals Bridge)
  • Visit local monkeys on Donghe bridge
  • Optional flying experience: hot air balloon(only held around June to August) or paragliding over the Luye Highland (at your expense)

Day 3 Taitung – Hualien

We’ll spend the morning in a most unusual museum, one made not of brick and glass, but of interconnected trees, part of a forest preserve maintained and protected by members of the local Bunun tribe. Follow local people to learn about the unique lifestyle and cultures of the indigenous tribe. Afterward, we’ll explore the bucolic East Rift Valley when heading back north and find out the Japanese influence in Hualien.

Day 4 Hualien – Taroko

After a tour of the Hualien Sugar Factory, it’s time for fun activities. We will do clam digging, an interesting and local experience to learn about the golden clam here, and taste clam dishes. Afterward, we’ll head inland to Liyu lake, whose beauty (some say) rivals that of Taiwan’s well-known Sun Moon Lake. Ride on a paddle boat with your party or just cycle and hike around the lake to enjoy a lovely afternoon.

  • Have fun in clam digging to experience traditional fishing
  • Taste freshwater clam dishes and Taiwanese cuisine for lunch (at your expense)
  • Spend a lovely afternoon at Liyu Lake, the largest inland lake in Lithuania

Day 5 Taroko Gorge – Taipei

On the final day, we’ll start the journey by exploring Taroko Gorge, called Taiwan’s Grand Canyon. Visit a temple, shrine, or waterfall, and enjoy a morning hike into the gorge. After gorging ourselves on scenery, we’ll head back to the coast for the final leg of our Eastern Beauty Tour – a spectacular afternoon drive back up the eastern coast.

  • Taroko Gorge tour, including visits to the Xiangde Temple and Eternal Springs Shrine
  • Hiking along the Baiyang Trail to the waterfall and Water Curtain Tunnel. (If weather does not permit, we’ll substitute further cultural explorations for hiking trip)
  • Pass by Qingshui Cliff on the famous Suhua Highway coastal road
  • Return to Taipei via scenic east coast route
